August is coming to an end and that also means summer vacation is coming to an end. I trust you managed to enjoy time off if you had some and did you go somewhere special or just stay around and enjoy our nice warm August sunshine that Edmonton has to offer. With summer over that means it’s back to school and back to work and we expect to see some more activity in the market too as buyers seem to be coming back now vacation is over.
We still gets lots of emails from builders and it looks like their prices are stabilizing although they are offering different incentives now than the simple price reductions they had been doing earlier. We did a video of this at the beginning of summer because it was common to see reductions of $20k, $30k or even $40k but one extreme was over $110k price reduction. Why so much? We assume that with the strong start to the year, many builders were raising prices to see what the market would support and how do you know what the market will support if you don’t raise prices to test it?
Thinking that August wouldn’t be too busy with lots of people going on vacation,we decided it would be the perfect time to take a vacation ourselves. This year our plan was to drive to BC to visit family and fortunately there was no smoke or wild fires to cancel our trip as had happened a few years ago. There were so many highlights and good experiences we can’t name them all however I will say Harrison Hots Springs was a favourite as I love hot springs and I am sure we even stayed in the same room Andy and I stayed in when we first went to Harrison Hot Springs 20 years ago. Visiting family is definitely a highlight too. We stayed a couple days with Andy’s sister who is very artistic and loves flowers and we stayed a couple days with Andy’s brother who is very inspiring and successful in business and of course Fionna got to spend time with her cousins. For the drive back we decide to do a big loop and go via Kelowna which was just beautiful that time of year. They even had a kangaroo farm which I must say was better than the ones I visited in Australia. The drive through the mountains was so amazing and while we planned to spend a couple nights in Canmore, there was a problem with the hotel so we just drove home early.
